Starting in version 2.0.0.247, Velocity provides 3 different methods of step and repeat. The step and repeat method can be selected in the Type menu under the Step and Repeat Setup section in the Document Setup dialog.

The three methods are -

  1. Step & Repeat multiple records
  2. Step & Repeat each record
  3. Step & Repeat each record by Qty

Step & Repeat multiple records is supported in previous versions of Velocity 2. Step & Repeat each record and Step & Repeat each record by Qty are supported only in Velocity 2.0.0.247. In addition, the Advanced Step & Repeat Options must be enabled to access these two new functions.

Step & Repeat Multiple Records

Each record will fill one cell on the step & repeat once. The start position and flow direction can be modified. This is the option available in old versions of Velocity 2.

The diagram below shows a step & repeat of a job with 6 records using Step & Repeat multiple records.

The output PDF in this case has 1 page.

If Advanced Step & Repeat Options is not enabled, this is the only step & repeat method available.

Step & Repeat Each Record

Each record fills the cells on one sheet. For a job with 6 records, 6 sheets will be generated in the output PDF.

The diagram below shows a step & repeat of a job with 6 records using Step & Repeat each record.

The output PDF in this case has 6 pages.

Note The Advanced Step and Repeat Options must be enabled to access the Step & Repeat each record method.

Step & Repeat Each Record by Qty

The quantity required for each record is provided in a database connected to the Velocity job. Each record will fill all cells of a number of sheets until the total repeat is larger than or equal to the quantity for each record. For example, if each sheet has 6 cells, and the quantity for a record is 6 or less, that record will fill one sheet. If the quantity for a record is between 7 and 12, that record will fill two sheets. If the quantity for a record is between 13 and 18, that record will fill three sheets.

To select a column as the Quantity column -

  1. click the select a column
  2. click the Qty button at the bottom
  3. If you have selected the wrong column, simply select the correct column and click the Qty button again.

The diagram below shows a step & repeat of a job with 6 records using Step & Repeat each record by Qty. The quantity for each record and the number of sheets for each record are also shown in the diagram.
