Various Compose software are web applications which require the Microsoft Internet Information Server to be installed.

You can follow the steps below to install IIS on Windows Server 2012 R2.


Step 1 - Add Server Role

Open Server Manager from the Shortcut Bar or in Windows menu.



Click on Manage at top-right and select Add Roles and Features.


The Before you begin window is shown. If you have previously checked Skip this page by default, this page will not be displayed. Proceed to Step 


2. Otherwise click Next to continue to step 2.



Step 2 - Select installation type



Select the option Role-based or feature-based installation. Click Next to continue.


Step 3 - Select destination server



Select the server you are adding roles to in the Server Pool list. Select the server you are running on.


Step 4 - Select server roles


The Select server roles window will be prompted.



Expand the option Application Server (1 of 11 installed).




Check the box to the left of Web Server (IIS) Support. The Add features window for Web Server (IIS) will be prompted.




Click Add Features to continue. You will return to the Select server roles window. Click Next to continue.


Step 5 - Select features



Click Next to continue to configure the Web Server Role.



Click Next to continue. The Select role services window is shown.



Scroll down for the option Application Development and expand it.



Check the options .NET Extensibility 3.5 and ASP.NET 3.5.



Scroll further down for the option Management Tools.



Check these options -

  • IIS Management Console
  • IIS Management Compatability
  • IIS Management Console
  • IIS 6 Scripting Tools
  • IIS 6 WMI Compatibility
  • IIS Management Scripts and Tools
  • Management Service


Note when you check the option IIS 6 Scripting Tools, the window Add features that are required for IIS 6 Scripting Tools is prompted. Click Add Features to add it and continue.



After you have checked the required options, the window should be like the one below.



Click Next to continue to step 6.


Step 6 - Confirm installation selections



Click Install to install the selected roles and features.


Installation will start and you will see the progress bar near the top.



You can close the window now by clicking the Close button - installation will continue in the background. You can also wait for the installation to complete, in which case you would see the message Installation succeeded on (server name). You can then click Close to close the window.



IIS installation for Compose Web Applications is now completed.
